"The Outcast" by Liam O'Flaherty Narrator/the Housekeeper/Kitty Mannion: Tara Power Parish Priest: Alan O'Brien Sound engineer/sound design: Neil Farrelly Cameraman: Eoin McDonnell Actors: Macha Molloy, Fionnghuala Ní Chonceannain and Gearóid Browne The Outcast is a very powerful piece of literature that shines a light on the inhumane treatment by the all-powerful Catholic Church of young pregnant women in Ireland over many years, something that deeply traumatised such women over generations, reverberating to this day, a hundred years later. as well as the deeply traumatic effect that this treatment has had on generations of such women. Bios: Tara Power is an actor, singer, drama facilitator, and lecturer based in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. She acts in theatre, TV, film and voice-over and is currently part of a radio drama production with Green Ember Arts. Tara writes interactive drama for children, has a post-grad in drama education from Trinity College Dublin, and recently completed a Masters in Higher Education specialising in online role-play to develop graduate attributes. Alan O'Brien describes himself as “a bricklayer with a writing problem”. He has written and produced a number of pieces for production on stage and will continue to do so. In 2015 Alan was shortlisted for the Maeve Binchy Travel Award with a piece entitled Cuba Si; in 2016 he won RTÉ's P.J. O'Connor Award for radio drama with a play entitled Snow Falls and So Do We. Alan is currently involved in the production of a BAI funded radio drama to be released in the coming months.
