ADG Filler #7 - DOSBox Sound Support

Video Originally Released: May 14th, 2011 ------------------------------------------ Nowadays, when you obtain a game of any kind you expect the sound and music to be exactly as the developer intended, but in the earlier days of gaming, getting sound and music into games was a tricky thing, since fully digitized effects (and especially music) simply took up way too much memory to be practical. DOSBox supports a large number of the various audio devices that were present in the early days of computing so I figured it'd be a good idea to give some information about each of them as well as how to set them up in the DOSBox configuration file. ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: Correct me if I'm wrong about DOSBox not supporting the AdLib Gold. It's not like it really needs to anyways as I don't think there's a single game out there that supports the AdLib Gold without supporting at least several other sound formats. :P Try not to get MIDI and General MIDI confused. General MIDI was a later standard to help define what each channel and instrument should be used for, while MIDI was simply the interface standard so two or more MIDI devices could communicate with each other. I'm aware that not everyone feels the IBM Music Feature Card is one of the best, certainly not by later standards, but when it came out it was still a good card for composing music... if you didn't mind spending PS3 launch prices to get one. :| Special thanks go out to Stefan Goehler of Crossfire Designs for providing me with some high-res sound card images to use in today's filler episode!
