First time fishing at Shaftsbury Park on the River Usk at Newport

With the flood defense works about to get underway it's time to go looking for new places to fish on the River Usk in Newport. Today I headed out to Shaftsbury Park for my first time fishing there. It's the furthest upstream that I've fished so far in Newport. I'm pretty sure it's still tidal at this point so no license is needed. I do have one if necessary though. I've contacted Natural Resources Wales to get their view on if this is still tidal. I'm not too worried about the fishing license but with the closed season approaching it's something to be aware of. If it's still tidal there's no closed season but if NRW considers this to be freshwater and not tidal then the closed season is operational. Obviously, with it being mid February there's not much fish around. It's an ok location but I'll probably only come back to it occasionally THere are better sites to look at.
