While doing research for an upcoming video on Mike Lah’s time at Hanna-Barbera, I realized what a wonderful animator Lah could be, EVEN under the tight ’n tiny budgets that the studio had to work with. Here’s some of his best (and funniest!) stuff done at the studio. Michael “Mike” Richard Lah (September 1st, 1912 - October 13th, 1995), though often remembered for his work on Tex Avery’s MGM cartoons released between 1949 and 1955, did equally funny work at the Hanna-Barbera studio in the late 1950s, after the original MGM studio shut down. In light of the shutdown, Bill and Joe opened up their own show in July of 1957, with Mike Lah animating on a freelance basis for one of their earliest productions, The Huckleberry Hound Show (1958), often going uncredited and working on gag footage during the middle of the cartoon. Lah never officially worked in/at the studio, however, and although was supposed to be a part of the ownership group of H-B Productions, he (most likely) didn’t have the money to invest in it, and continued working elsewhere. He passed away a little under 4 decades later.
