Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, princess of Kuwait, is the Director General of the DAI (Dar Al-Athar Al-Islammiyah) in Kuwait City. The DAI began as a museum housing one of the world's finest collections of Islamic art. During the 1990 Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, the museum was raided and destroyed. The collection has since been returned to Kuwait, and the museum is currently under reconstruction. During the rebuilding, Sheikha Hussah has organized exhibits of the DAI collection in all parts of the world. She believes that the universal language of beauty creates curiosity about others and must act as a bridge between cultures. In this way, exhibiting Islamic art expands the view people have of Muslims. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
