North East Cyclo-Cross League (NECCL) Round 1, Bedlington, Northumberland - 9th Sept 2023

A short video of a 61-year-old roadie's baptism into the cyclo-cross scene (or CX as I've now learned to call it). The North East Cyclo-Cross League (NECCL)   / 360782074053442   is one of two local leagues in the the North East of England, the other being Cyclo-Cross North East (CXNE) https://www.cxne.co.uk/ which I'm also intending to race for 2023-24 at least. I've done no competitive off-road cycling but have been tinkering with the idea of 'cross since joining my cycling club, Durham City Velo, a couple of years ago. To initiate the plan, I'd spent 6 weeks watching many hours of CX-related content on YouTube and trying to put what I was learning into practice. My touring bike was actually an old-school, aluminium cross frame with cantilever braze-ons and the necessary clearances; all I had to do was fit the cheapest, legally sized tyres I could find (Schwalbe CX Comp 30c) and get ready to race. The 9th of September 2023, over most of the UK I think, was hot; in the North East the temperature was somewhere around 30 degrees and the course was bone dry which, if untypical, would hopefully, give me a couple of weeks grace to hone the more specialised skills I'd eventually need.
