LBS Soltera Fixing System

The Soltera fixing system is a revolutionary patented fixing system that has been uniquely designed for fitting LBS Snowdon and Shetland clay roof tiles. It allows for versatility, speed and security when fixing the interlocking roof tiles, and is vastly superior to any other fixing system on the market. It has been stringently tested to give builders, roofers and homeowners the reassurance of a product which eliminates any risk of tile movement once fitted. Eaves Course The Soltera clip can be used as both a tile clip and an eaves clip so installers only need to take one product onto the roof. When using the Soltera clip as an eaves clip, LBS recommend that it is screwed into position. The eaves course of any roof is the first row of tiles above the gutter on a roof and this is a vulnerable area. Once you have fitted the Soltera clip at your eaves course this gives reassurance against wind uplift and provides a seamless fit for your tiles. Soltera Clip and Screw Fixing The LBS Soltera Clip and Screw fixing is the most secure method of fixing a large format, single lap clay tile. When fitting Snowdon and Shetland tiles in a broken bond half lap method, the left hand top fixing hole of the tile aligns with the interlock on the tile above. This allows for the Soltera clip to be screwed into position using a 45mm screw. This interlock holds both the head of one tile and the tail of the tile above in one place with one secure fixing. Soltera Clip and Nail Fixing Another secure fixing method for the Snowdon and Shetland tiles is the LBS Soltera Clip and Nail fixing. Here, the Soltera clip is nailed into position using a 50 x 3.35mm aluminium ring shank nail. Again, the interlock holds both the head of one tile and the tail of the tile above in place with one unique fixing. Using either a nail or screw fixing with the LBS Soltera clip complies with the relevant codes of practice which state that each tile must have a minimum of one mechanical fixing. Although the LBS Snowdon and Shetland tiles are of large format single lap design, clay roof tiles will be lighter in weight compared to concrete. Video of nail only fixing method showing uplift This video demonstrates how a nail only fixing will leave the tail of the tile vulnerable to wind uplift and may lead to them blowing off the roof. Whilst a nail only top fixing complies with the minimum fixing guidelines, LBS do recommend that you use additional tail clip fixings, such as our Soltera clip, when fitting our clay tiles. Full Soltera fitting instructions are available for download from the LBS website. LBS also offer a site-specific fixing guide for projects on request.
