Genshin Impact - La vita e sogno (Piano Arrangement)

My arrangement of La vita e sogno from the Fontaine / Petrichor region of Genshin Impact, originally composed by Archangelo Chen. Some thoughts on the performance: I spent a lot of time trying to make this arrangement more interesting since a literal transcription would've been too repetitive and miss a lot of details. This comes out at around measure 10 (0:28), where I switch the accompaniment, as well as the middle section, with the added runs and arpeggios. I was worried about how it would sound since a lot of my attempts at being creative just end up sounding awkward. But I think it turned out well, even if the execution was messy at times. The hardest part of this piece for me was creating smooth phrases. This is something I’ve struggled with, especially in slower pieces. I think the beginning and ending sections flow reasonably well, even though there are still some awkward spots. But the middle section was much trickier due to the octaves, and my performance is very inconsistent. For example, in measures 32-33, you can hear how the last note is softer than the first, but it's not a gradual decrescendo. Still, it's an improvement - for example, in my performance of Rippling Wavelet in the Aquabus video I emphasized basically every melody note, so at least this time there’s some semblance of phrasing, even if overall it still feels monotone. Funny story - on the day I recorded this, I had a lesson (working on a completely different piece - Debussy's The Girl with the Flaxen Hair), and my teacher’s feedback was all about making the piece flow better and cutting back on rubato. I’d been using a lot more rubato, especially in the opening, but I figured that advice applied here too. So I ended up playing it pretty differently from how I’d been practicing, and I think it actually worked out for the better. Other notes: I was originally planning to do the entire Petrichor set at once, but it's been taking a lot more time than I thought. I'm still planning to upload a compilation video eventually, but in the interest of appeasing the algorithm I figured it'd be better to not lower the frequency of my videos even further.
