This time featuring the complete soundtrack of the Watatsumi Island region in Genshin Impact! Well... almost. There's two more, but they're just simpler variations of other tracks so I feel justified in the title. What isn't justified, however, is the thumbnail. I wasn't planning on this new video format, but it turns out these pieces are harder than they look and at some point I gave up trying to film myself and settled on recording just the sound. The end result was that I spent a good 15 or so hours video editing and not practicing. I don't regret it though. While I don't intend to do this for every video (in part due to how long it takes), it is nice to have a bit of variety and not have to set up the camera every single time. I also learned a good deal about the editing process and how to record in-game footage (no sudden movements, longer shots, etc). As for why these pieces are difficult, it's largely because I am terrible at playing the same thing over and over again for an extended period of time at a steady tempo. For example, in Island of Crystal and Pearl, the left hand plays the same pattern for most of the piece. This is fine for a short duration, but unless I get a good recording during that time (keeping in mind that's not the only thing to get right), I'll tense up or get tired and end up with some obvious hiccup or another. It's also difficult and not fun to practice, since a single repetition is easy to get right and within a single practice or recording session I usually get worse over time. Despite that, I think I did okay overall? There's a few missed notes but none are particularly noticeable (hopefully). I'm pretty happy with voicing, especially in In a Harmonious Atmosphere with the ostinato and melody both played by the right hand. Some of the phrasing is rather sloppy, but the overall shapes are usually there. If I had to re-record one piece it would probably be Illuminated Coral Palace - the second half feels a bit "out of control" and should be much more relaxed.
