How Do We Understand Religion?

We’re going to first talk about intersubjectivity, or what the philosopher Husserl calls “We-subjectivity” and how this leads to his idea of a “life-world.” Then we’ll get into the idea of the historicity of understanding and how it effects all the possible ways we could understand the past by talking about Gadamer and his explanation of a horizon. We’ll connect up the idea of prejudice to horizon and see how the only possible way to access and interpret the past is through our conditioned ways of understanding. Finally, we’ll link this up to how we understand religion. Let’s go!
