DAY 2 (19 Jan): Route taken : Ranchi-Phusro-Deoghar-Hansdiha-Bhagalpur(374kms) (6:30am to 9:30 pm) As planned we started at 6:00am. By the time we reached the outskirts of Ranchi it had started drizzling. Jharkhand highways offer some brilliant landscape for riders and we enjoyed every bit of our drive. Although some sections of highway in between were rough, the drive was still very charming. Poverty in rural areas of Jharkhand was visible as we could see many locals smuggling quintals of coal from nearby coal mines. It was heartbreaking to see them pushing their cycles loaded with coal for many miles. Also between Fusro and Deoghar there were many groups of rowdies who were stopping vehicles and extorting money. I was able to drive past all of them without stopping. Truckers however had to stop everywhere and had to give in to this broad daylight robbery. After crossing into Bihar the final 50 kms upto Bhagalpur had a huge queue of trucks which continued till Bhagalpur bypass road. We checked into Galaxy 16 hotel in Bhagalpur by 8:30pm. I was accompanied by my mother during this trip. The entire tour lasted for 14 days in which we covered the following destinations of Meghalaya:- 1) Shillong - Capital of Meghalaya 2) Shnongpdeng village - A small settlement in East Khasi hills on the banks of UMNGOT river. 3) Dawki - Situated on India-Bangladesh border 4) Mawlynnong village which is famous for being Asia’s cleanest village. 5) Cherrapunji also known as Shora. To reach Meghalaya we had to drive through 6 Indian states namely Orissa,Jharkhand,Bihar, WestBengal and Assam. I did this tour in January which is considered as off season for tourism in Meghalaya.
