They have been described as being a “premier landlocked Midwestern surf group.” Much of their music was beach/surf tunes, however they also played rock, pop and beat music as well..... The band formed in 1956 as the Stormtroopers and changed their name to the Astronauts in 1961 when they signed with RCA Records.
