CCIR Student Spotlights: Wesley on The Impact of Energy Policy on U.S. Renewable Growth

Wesley Leeroy is a student at Richard Montgomery High School in the US. Besides his outstanding academic achievements, he has also won 1st place in Beestar's GT Math Competition and placed 5th in the Capitol Debate’s Club Debate. Besides that, Wesley is eager to make an impact in the real world. He has expanded his skills through Harvard’s CS50 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python course, where he gained proficiency in Python and AI concepts, completing 12 projects. He also attended the Oxford Machine Learning Summer School, focusing on AI in finance and accounting. He co-presented an AI model he developed to improve IRS tax compliance systems at the American Accounting Association Annual Conference. As a Winter Intern at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Wesley optimised AI models to analyse renewable energy thresholds. He also co-founded and co-presides over RMHS’s Aviation AI Club, leading workshops and researching machine learning’s role in optimising air traffic flow. At the CCIR Academy, Wesley’s research project, "The Impact of Energy Policy on U.S. Renewable Growth: Empirical Evidence from Network Models and AI Applications," examines how energy policies shape renewable energy growth in the US, using AI and network models to provide empirical insights into the connection between policy and energy expansion. Wesley’s recognition at the CCIR Academy reflects his dedication to research, with thanks to his professor and the academy for their support.
