Solar Pedestal Fan DIY! direct PV DC powered conversion, build overview

A direct PV DC solar powered electric fan has to be one of the most pure and simple ways to keep cool in a workshop or house. Normal household fans require AC power, which ties the user to batteries, charge controllers and inverters. But direct drive PV DC appliances skip all the complexity and perform the work by directly consuming DC solar power from the solar panels. And yes, they can connect to a 12v battery if needed. A bunch of solar fan projects have been sitting around here unfinished. It's time to get one done so I can stay cool :) You can convert just about any house fan to DC! In this video I explain the different parts of the setup including: motor types, physical installation and conversion, motor speed control methods. Plus I will demonstrate a fan conversion and show it in operation. Hope you like this project and video, take care! -Dave ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out our blog - Solar Thoughts Blog! https://solarpoweredge.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- /// PARTS LIST - NOTES - MORE INFORMATION Please note these are affiliate links - I receive a small commission if you use them to shop. Thank you for supporting my work :) 1. Most common table and pedestal fans have an 8mm shaft, with a pin to help lock the fan blade to the motor shaft. You can take a fan apart and examine the setup before looking for a motor. 2. Typically ~1000-3000rpm would be ok for a fan such as this. Even at lower speeds these fans can make a good breeze. There is no need to run the motor wide open. 3. Fan blades often vibrate. Attaching a small weight to the blade may help reduce vibration. Finding the right location for the weight is generally a process of trial and error. Make sure the weight is secure and doesn't fly off the blade! 🟢 Suggested 12V 3000rpm 8mm shaft DC motor - https://amzn.to/3WDa2uH (Includes PWM speed controller and a strong L bracket) 🟢 Motor flange coupler - can be useful for mounting fan pedestal to block of wood - https://amzn.to/3A8BDuA SPE Amazon Store Link: https://www.amazon.com/shop/solarpowe... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Like this type of video?
