Quick video overview of my direct PV-DC solar powered window air conditioner prototype, plus the August 2024 solar workshop VLOG. It has always been my dream to create the first direct solar powered DC window air conditioner . This machine is truly direct solar powered but can also use any DC input such as 12v batteries. The compressor can run at variable speeds and voltages from 10 volts or even up over 21 volts if necessary, without any user intervention required. A solar powered window AC has many interesting uses, the most obvious is keeping a small space cool without affecting running up the power bill. This solar powered air conditioner project is intended to help me learn more about solar powered refrigeration and HVAC technology. The compressor uses R-134a refrigerant, which is fairly safe, very common and widely available. R134a refrigerant is found in all sorts of machines including fridges and air conditioning systems. Recently I purchased a set of HVAC gauges and vacuum pump to charge my solar powered window air conditioner and start learning more about refrigeration. Hopefully this investment of time, money and energy will pay off. Future plans - since 2021 I have been working on building a powerful split-AC system that can run direct drive from solar panels, but without all the complex electronics and top heavy technology that typical "ductless mini split" air conditioners have. This project is under way and I hope to upload one or more videos covering it in detail as soon as possible.
