The bells of Hatherleigh were cast in 1929 by Mears and Stainbank at the Whitechapel Foundry in London and are a brilliant sounding octave. The bells hang in a 2 tier oak frame dating from 1883 by Harry Stokes with bells 1 and 3 above. The internal acoustics are not great for the early bells, especially treble, 2nd and 3rd. They form a challenging ring of 8 but with a fair amount of effort can be rung pretty well. The whole octave is due to be re-hung, with a new frame, new ringing fittings where required and a new ringing gallery being installed, it will be good to go back once the project is complete to see how they compare.
