The church of All Saints, Okehampton, sits high above and away from the Town. The 8 bells are superb and sound, both good in the ringing room and from outside. They are basically a Gillett & Johnston octave with 2 of the former bells by Thomas Wroth cast in 1750 as 5th and 6th. Treble, 2nd, 3rd, 4th 7th and Tenor all by Gillett & Johnston of Croydon and cast in 1937, the 2 older bells tuned to match the new ring. Considering most of Wroth's bells in the County are poor tonally, these are pretty good and match in well. Tenor weights 16-2-13 in F. They are hung all on one level in a cast iron frame dated 1937. Okehampton are a proper ring of bells, being easy to handle, slightly tricky around the middle but nothing to untoward, worth seeking out, they are a real gem! One of my favourite 8's in Devon. This video was taken on Saturday, 6th January. The ringers from Treble to Tenor are - Scott Adams, Jenny Sparling, Lee Avery, Martin Sharland, Paul Wright, Alban Forster, William Carew and Ian Fielding.
