The bells of St Werburgh, Wembury,South Devon

The six bells were recently restored by Taylors of Loughborough, they were removed from the tower for conservation, cleaning and the removal of their canons and cast in crown staples. The bells were tuned and new ringing fittings manufactured. The cast iron & steel frame was cleaned & painted and an extra grillage manufactured & installed under the bells to strengthen it. The work has really improved the ring, from what was a peal of bells that were avoided to now this really bright new ring that are easy to handle and are clear and audible in the ringing room. There is still some odd struckness in one or 2 bells, notably the 2nd but that will be rectified in due course. They are worth visiting, not just for the bells but for The views over the beach and across to the Great Mewstone. This video was taken during the Ivybridge & Plymouth Deanery ringing festival on Saturday, 14th September. The band ringing are Shaugh Prior, who finished 1st with 20 faults. Bell details - Treble 3-1-21 in G#, 2nd 3-2-7 in F#, 3rd 4-0-9 in E, 4th 4-2-3 in D#, 5th, 5-0-18 in C#, Tenor 6-0-3 in B.
