Meeting Bret Iwan at GalaxyCon Live - February 7th, 2021

Bret Iwan is a former Hallmark illustrator and the current voice of Mickey Mouse, Disney's iconic mascot. I was still coping with the death of one of my uncles so I spent part of my session talking it out with Iwan while sharing my own condolences for Russi Taylor's passing. She was the previous voice of Minnie Mouse and growing up with the occasional Mickey Mouse cartoon, I recognized her portrayal most of all (I watch fewer Mickey cartoons that predated the 80s). I still remembered how saddened I was to read Tara Strong's touching memories she had of her. Being burdened with the death of my uncle allowed me to relate to Iwan even after two years later. That was how talking it out with him briefly while speaking of my fondness of The Sorcerer's Apprentice was a tremendous step toward finding peace with my family's loss. :) When I was still in grade school, I went with my family on a trip to Walt Disney World Resort and got two souvenir hats. One was a golden Mickey Mouse ears hat that was released to commemorate Disneyland's 50th Anniversary and the other was a recreation of the iconic sorcerer hat that Mickey wore in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. They've been gathering dust in my bedroom since then, but I still keep them because they hold sentimental value. My session with Iwan was the perfect time to put the hats back on and show them off to him.
