Mono-printing street scene with oil paint and hand cut stencil on 200gsm smooth card During the first lock-down here in the UK in March 2020 I took a series of photographs of the empty streets around my hometown, no traffic, no people and very quiet. I always intended to work on some projects that would capture these scenes and the composition seen in this demo video is one of the first of a series. I hope you find the technique interesting and that it might inspire you to try this for yourself. I've added a final shot of the location filmed this morning (25/06/21), it brings the scene back to life from the original emptiness of the lock-down that inspired the composition. Lord Street, Fleetwood, Lancashire (on lock-down March 2020) Oil paint on 200gsm paper 21" × 9" Materials : Oil paint : Daler Rowney Georgian range Vandyke Brown, Prussian Blue 200gsm Smooth card Plastic sheet for paint transfer (use recycled plastic) Pallet knife, cotton bud, sponge, rag, sharp craft knife, cutting mat The stencil is cut from thick card that has been covered with clear tape on both sides. Captures the desolation of early lock-down, based on photographs I took during the first shutdown, closed empty shops, quiet streets, no traffic, no people.
