Easy Monoprinting techniques with oil paint and simple abstracts

Easy Monoprinting techniques with oil paint and simple abstract compositions. I know I have filmed these multi panel artworks before but this one has been filmed with my new camera set up that shows much more detail and is a big improvement on the quality of the earlier videos. Hope it is of interest. Materials : Oil Paint (Cadmium Red, Black), 200gsm smooth card, Pallet knife, Mylar stencil sheets, recycled plastic (for the paint transfer sheets), masking tape, marker pen, scissors, craft knife, sponge, rag, paper towel, blunt pencil or old pen. Frame template made with card and parcel tape. MUSIC : Spirit Of Fire by Jesse Gallagher (YouTube audio library) My aim with all of these demo videos is to try to illustrate as clear as possible the complete creative process from start to finish, beginning with a blank piece of paper or empty canvas and showing in clear detail each application of paint or drawn line. I film in real time with no time lapse and have little or no music, my voice would not add anything that I cannot show visually so I don't feel the need to explain each stage of the process. I am always happy to answer your questions regarding the demos. Creativity is rewarding and I hope the demos help to inspire you to try the techniques for yourself. TIME STAMPS (skip sections or watch again) 0:00 Begin with 200gsm smooth card and a frame template that has been made with card and parcel tape, cut to required size, held in place with masking tape. 0:47 Mylar stencil sheet. This works well for this method because it will stay in place and can be used many times. You could also use scrap card or torn newspaper. Here I am improvising random shapes, they could be abstract heads or figures, landscapes or still life compositions. 7:34 Oil paint transfer. Cadmium Red oil paint is spread very thinly onto the plastic transfer sheet. Use recycled plastic bags for this. 8:20 Applying the first layer. Press firmly over the surface, repeat until the paint has been used, then repeat as many time as needed. Press around the shapes of the stencils but try to avoid applying too much paint. Vary the texture. 11:30 Remove the stencils. Once you have applied all of the paint carefully remove all the shapes using a scalpel to lift off the surface. 12:48 Blend the wet paint. Using a sponge or paper towel lightly brush over the surface to soften the edges and create a variety of tone. Do not overwork this stage. 13:34 Add some texture. Using the paint transfer sheet, add some texture to the surface by scratching with a blunt pencil or old pen, achieve thicker lines with your finger nail. 15:52 Adding the next layer. To be updated later. Details to follow Mono printing booklet now available from the website.
