I had some really good luck choosing the instruments. I was just looking for temporary stuff to then find the permanent ones, but some of the ones I chose worked really well in tandem, so I tried those out and then kept them in. They absolutely make the song. The only instrument that I couldn't find right away was the lyrics one, I needed an extra day for that one, and found one from Thunder Force IV. Then I used that game's music as a frame of reference, and made me notice my samples were too loud by comparison, so I fixed that. And then I had a break for like a week, and when I came back I noticed that the lyrics instruments were overshadowing the rest of the song, so I toned those down. I wanted to have this be only FM, but I ran out of instrument space, so I used some 8-bit sound to do the second voices of the lyrics, and in some places to also imitate plates. No stereo this time, no need for it, I think.
