Surfcasting Muriwai Beach - Tips and tricks & a look at the new Abu Veritas 3.0 surf rods

A quiet but "Magic" day off the sand We take a look at how I read Muriwai beach when surfcasting - I show you how to find spots to fish and why, I also show a few tips and tricks that work for me. We also look at the new Abu Veritas 3.0 surf rods we take up the beach for a flick. Although the tides weren't right for our spot up Muriwai beach sometimes I get sick of the norm fishing from the boat catching Snapper and King fish, I do prefer a laxed day up the beach with a mate surfcasting sometimes. A day like this I find is special and most times would do again, even when the fish don't bite sometimes I just love it and find it a better day than a good day out in the boat on the East coast. We didn't get up to our spot till about noon - the spot we fish is a low tide spot that allows us to fish a nice deep gut that runs along the beach in places. Stopping at our first spot there wasn't a lot of action and after a few bites and landing a stingray over the first couple hours we made the decision to change our pozzi. We were able to fish our spot at around 3 o'clock - we normally try to line this tide time in the late afternoon, sometimes waiting for that with the swell and wind you just gotta take what you can and go have a go. Being this time of year also makes it difficult to get onto the fish, most times you will get a few shots and some nice Trev's and defiantly pull a few Kahawai. It was pretty quiet all day but an hour before we got pushed off our spot with the rising tide we did manage a nice Trev and couple Kahawai - although it wasn't overly productive I do love fishing the West coast over the East even when it is like this. It was a top day fishing up the beach with a mate and the onus end the end was a couple fish in the bin....Bring on Sep/Oct when the Snapper come in again, well be back then for another great day surfcasting the sands of a West coast beach. Tight lines
