New Jersey’s striped bass and winter flounder seasons reopen on Friday, March 1, and despite somewhat “wintry” conditions in the forecast that’s a sure sign that spring is in the air and in the water! In fact, while surfcasters are hitting open shops in search of jumbo bloodworms for sod bank stripers in the early days of the season ahead, we do have a couple of reports of bunker showing in the Garden State, no doubt to be followed soon after by ocean run stripers and tiderunner weakfish. Sure, we’re already thinking down the road a month or so, but a few sunny days next week could produce good action with holdover stripers to kick off the month of March.
