April 4, 2019 New Jersey/Delaware Bay Fishing Report with Jim Hutchinson, Jr.

Weekly fishing reports for NJ/DE Bay region at http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm... The first week of April finds a few more good-sized striped bass making their up the Delaware River, with 40-inchers registered along the Jersey side (at least one in the mid 30-pound range). April 1 of course kicked of the spring spawning closure on the Delaware River from the Commodore Barry Bridge to the Calhoun Street Bridge in Trenton. Hopefully we’ll see another good run of big stripers pushing upriver in the coming days; keep an eye on the Raritan too where big staging stripers should soon starting whacking artificials before the turn upriver there to spawn. Back bay and river action in (Barnegat, the Toms, Mullica and Great Egg) is still good with bloodworms the best bet; could be a good time to try fresh clam too as black drum should be moving into Great Bay soon. Diving gannets out front are another natural sign indicating that bait and bass are converging on the Jersey Shore; in a social media sense, it’s really just a matter of whether you want to read the reports or make them. Trout season kickoff in New Jersey on Saturday, April 6, plus the two-day Fishing and Boating Expo in Wildwood, NJ.
