Balangiga, Basey, & San Antonio-Tacloban by Boat. Byaheng Samar Island South Coastal.

We finally got a chance to explore the Southern Coast of Samar Island. Our journey started in Guiuan, Eastern Samar where we took a local bus to go to Balangiga, one of the most historic places in Samar due to the massacre that took place in 1901, and the three bells that were taken by the US military as a war trophy. We finally saw the church where the historic events happened, and the three bells which were repatriated in 2018. From Balangiga, we took another bus to go to Basey in Samar. Basey is one of the oldest town in Samar, and while in Basey, we found the Buscada Chapel where Tacloban's Santo Nino came from. We also saw several well-preserved ancestral houses, and finally, the magnificent church of St. Michael Archangel. While exploring Basey's pier, we discovered that it is possible to go back by boat to Tacloban from Barangay San Antonio. So, without any plan, we rented a habal-habal to take us to San Antonio, and from there, took the 20-minute boat going to Tacloban.
