We Found Japan's Incredibly Rare & Most Iconic Animal *Emotional* (RRC-EA & WIJ Video Project)

🔍 Finding Japan's rarest and most iconic crane in the Japan's largest wetland sounds a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, but in today's travel vlog, we're putting on our David Attenborough hats and going in search of these elusive and majestic birds. Seeing a red crowned crane ("タンチョウ, tancho" in Japanese) is a "life in Japan" dream come true, so expect a big emotional surprise reaction if we find one. The question is, with only an estimated 2300 left in the entire world, will we be in luck? Crane spotted at mystery location! 12:09 Yumegaoka Observatory (夢ヶ丘達古武歩道、夢ヶ丘展望台) Kushiro Wetland is the largest wetland in Japan, spanning 3 towns and one city. It is as wide as Tokyo metropolitan's 23 wards, and is most famous for being home to a handful of the second rarest crane in the world; the Japanese red-crowned crane. Until recently, the cranes were feared to be extinct, but after some were spotted in a corner of the Kushiro marshlands, conservation efforts have helped to increase their population and Kushiro now has the largest red-crowned crane population in the world. Visitors flock (pun intended) to Tsurui Village feeding stations in winter for a chance to see their iconic mating dances, but we're hoping to see a family of cranes with newborn "hina" (baby cranes) in summer when the wetland is at its most lush and green. This beautiful, massive wetlands site is an important sanctuary for vulnerable and endangered species as well as for tourism and not only is it the largest wetland in Japan, it was selected as Japan's first Ramsar Wetland of International Importance (and from our reactions, you might be able to tell that we're very thankful for the hard work that has gone in to conserving it)! What is the Ramsar Convention and what makes a wetland habitat internationally important? The Ramsar Convention is an international, intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for the conservation of wetlands that are gradually disappearing. The treaty has been signed by 172 countries and there are currently 53 Ramsar wetland sites in Japan. Each Ramsar site must satisfy at least 1 of these 9 criteria: https://www.ramsar.org/sites/default/... As home to some incredibly rare wild animals, Kushiro checks off points 1, 2 & 3. ____________________________________________________ #japanvlogs #ramsar #endangeredanimals #surpriseending #hokkaido #travelvlog #vanlifevlog
