Japan is SINKING! Here's Why You Should Visit Before it’s Too Late (RRC-EA & WIJ Video Project)

It is alternatively known as “The End of the World” due to the dead, bleached trees that can be found at the tree “graveyards”, Narawara and Todowara. Some 300 years ago, the land here was lush and green, but now tourists visit to see the bleak and eerie signs of erosion as the sea eats up the remaining trees and the sandspit disappears at a rate of 1.5cm every year. However, despite this oddly apocalyptic scenery, there is actually a lot of life at the end of the world. The peninsula and bay are home to Ezo deer, foxes, seals, a very rare breed of shrimp with extremely stringent fishing quotas, and over 200 different bird species migrate here annually. The wetland site is an important sanctuary for endangered species as well as for tourism and fishery and is a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. What is the Ramsar Convention and what makes a wetland habitat internationally important? The Ramsar Convention is an international, intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for the conservation of wetlands that are gradually disappearing. The treaty has been signed by 172 countries and there are currently 53 Ramsar wetland sites in Japan. Each Ramsar site must satisfy at least 1 of these 9 criteria: https://www.ramsar.org/sites/default/... Notsuke checks off points 1, 2, 5 & 6. In our next vlog, we will be visiting Japan's largest wetland and Ramsar site, so be sure to subscribe and come back to see more truly unique Japan travel destinations! ____________________________________________________ #japantour #ramsar #travelvlog2022 #wetland #hokkaido #vanlifevlog #vlogumentary
