It is crucial that they have mental endurance and strength as they grow as a player. Catchers are the leaders and captains on the field. They need to be tough, vocal and engaged on every pitch. Catchers need to focus on the pitcher/catcher relationship. They will keep the pitcher calm, focused and help them control the pace of the game. They are the quarterback on the field and are involved in every play. Another aspect of being a quality catcher is creating a solid catcher/umpire relationship. Always shake the umpires hand, introduce yourself and be respectful. Discuss situations, pitch locations and create a healthy conversation back and forth between the catcher and the umpire throughout the game.
