Jesus comes to the house of mercy in the city of peace and asks a man who had been ill for 38 years, “Do you want to be whole?” While many only focus on the opportunity to walk that Jesus seems to offer, Jesus was actually offering this man an opportunity to receive the Shalom that His salvation provides. The man showed that he did not want to be spiritually whole, he only wanted to be physically healed. This man wanted to use Jesus for what He could do for Him but refused to accept Jesus for Who He was. Like this man, some people only want what the Church of Jesus Christ has to offer but not Who we have to offer.
