Kang the Conqueror is the "big bad" of the MCU's Multiverse Saga. This Saga will also introduce Marvel's first family, The Fantastic 4. The relationship between Mr. Fantastic's Reed Richards and Kang's Nathaniel Richards is often misunderstood. So let's break down exactly how these characters are related in the comics, and how that will transfer to the MCU. Nathaniel Richards constructed a time machine that resembled a sphinx. You can actually see this time traveling sphinx in the void at the end of time in the Loki series. Well he traveled back to ancient Egypt where he became known as Rama Tut. And he actually met a mutant, the first mutant, En Sabah Nur. Who would later go on to become another big Marvel villain, Apocalypse. After his time in Egypt he re-entered the time stream and found himself in the modern day Marvel Universe, Universe 616. There he encountered Dr. Doom. And they tease that Rama and Doom may actually be the same person or at least related. This wasn't really touched on again and was later retconned, more on that in a bit. But after his encounter with Dr. Doom, he was inspired to change up his look. And so he became the Scarlet Centurion. And then he’d later change his look up once again and become Kang the Conqueror. But throughout the Multiverse multiple different timelines and universes, we’ve seen him take on many other forms. There’s Victor Timely, a version of the Kang that traveled to the year 1901. He made his way to Wisconsin and established the town of Timely, where he was the mayor. All so he could start a robotics company that would have a century to evolve and that he as Kang could utilize in his fight against the Avengers. Then there’s Mister Gryphon. A version of Kang who became trapped in the modern day Marvel universe, unable to time travel. So he bought the former Avengers tower and turned it into QENG Enterprises, spelled Q-E-N-G, not K-A-N-G like his villainous alter ego. Now ever since we learned the Avengers Tower of the MCU was being sold back in Spider-Man Homecoming. Fans have speculated on who may have bought the tower. Was it Norman Osborne and will the tower become Oscorp? Could the tower become the Baxter Building, which is the home of the Fantastic 4? Well, the Loki series revealed the buyer of the tower, at least in one universe, to be none other than the Kang variant, Mister Gryphon. Here in the void you can see the Avengers tower with the logo QENG. Now another version of the character is Immortus. We’ve kind of sorta met Immortus in the MCU, but you’ll know him as He Who Remains. The MCU has combined the characters of Immortus and He Who Remains. But in the comics they are two very different characters, and only one of them is a variant of Kang. In the comics, He Who Remains controls the TVA, created the Time Keepers, and resides at the Citadel at the End of Time. But, he looks like this. And, he’s not a variant of Kang. Now the MCU’s version of He Who Remains is heavily inspired by Immortus. In the comic Avengers Forever Vol 1 #3, we hear Kang the Conqueror say this about his variant, Immortus. “He calls himself the Master of Time! "Gardener of Time" is more truthful! He prunes away the chronal branches deemed by others to be dangerous, reducing reality to a bloodless meadow! But that's not the way of warriors -- of men!” And then there’s Nathaniel Richards’ Iron Lad. So, Kang was born on earth 6311. One of the key differences between this earth and earth 616 is that this earth never went through the dark ages. With that being the case, it was able to advance far more quickly. This reminds me a lot of the MCU’s Universe 838 that we were introduced to in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This universe was seemingly taking place in the same year as the MCU’s Universe 616, but it was far more advanced. Likely because 838 also never went through the dark ages. Anyway, back to Iron Lad. This version of Kang became Iron Lad when he traveled to the 616 Universe after meeting his future self and wanting the Avengers to help him avoid this fate. He later became Iron Lad and formed the Young Avengers. But eventually ended up fulfilling his destiny of becoming Kang the Conqueror. [clip] And we all know Tony Stark is going to be in Secret Wars. No I don’t have any inside information, I’m just certain that in the big crossover multiversal event they won’t pass up the opportunity to have Tony Stark return.
