FMDiSC 2024-06-14

June 2024 FMDiSC Meeting Our next meeting will be on Friday, June 14, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, (GMT-07:00) America/Los Angeles. The meeting will be held online using the Zoom desktop or mobile app (see below.) JUNE AGENDA Caleb Ruth: FileMaker for Global Health Research Longtime FMDiSC member Caleb Ruth of Research Allies, who lives in Doha, Qatar, will share a project he has been developing for many years; creating a FileMaker-based tool for global health researchers to capture data in resource-limited areas of the world. Caleb will present three case studies of the tool being used in the field. The first case was in some of the poorest areas of Mumbai, second in rural farmland in Uganda, and third in semi-rural Thailand. Caleb will share some lessons he has learned over the years about deploying FileMaker in these unconventional environments. Chris Moyer: Tech News Roundup In his monthly segment, Chris Moyer of The Moyer Group will present a summary of significant news, both directly related to FileMaker and Claris, and from the larger world of technology. Bulletin from Berlin Chris and Caleb were both at the Dot FMP conference in Berlin last week, and they will share their takes on the event. Anyone else who was there is also welcome to chime in. Bill Bennett: Engineers Who Sell: A Framework for Advancing Your Ideas Everybody sells. All the time. We all have ideas, initiatives, perspectives that we want to advance. Even if you are an engineer in your current role, your ability to listen, build trust, and influence outcomes can unlock new levels of job satisfaction and career success. And your engineering skills will actually help! In this session, Bill Bennett of Kiza Solutions will walk through a proven four-step framework for engineering your sales process that you can immediately apply to your next big initiative. He will discuss why you need to patiently sit in the pain with your stakeholders, how asking for help and enrolling others shows you where you stand, and how to hold back your demo until the optimal moment for impact. Attend this session to demystify the process and unpack a few gotchas so that you can engineer your way to enjoyable, predictable, and positive outcomes!
