PUNE (MAHARASHTRA) TO KANNIYAKUMARI (TAMIL NADU) : FULL TRAIN JOURNEY : 16381 PUNE - KANNIYAKUMARI JAYANTI JANTA EXPRESS : RPM WAP-7 LOCOMOTIVE : INDIAN RAILWAYS 16381/Pune - Kanniyakumari Express (PT) Other Names: Jayanti Janta Express पुणे - कन्याकुमारी एक्सप्रेस PUNE/Pune Junction -- CAPE/Kanniyakumari The Kanyakumari-Pune or Jayanti Janata Express is an Express train belonging to Indian Railways that used to run between Kanyakumari and Pune Junction, Pune in India. It was the first and oldest train service from Mumbai to South India. Initially the service was from Victoria terminus Bombay (Mumbai CST) to Cochin Harbour Terminus, later it was extended to Trivandrum, 81/82 Bombay- Cochin Jayanti Janata Express has been extended up to Trivandrum with effect from 1-4-1978. Then to Nagercoil then to Kanyakumari. From 2020 onwards, according to zero-based timetable, it runs only till Pune. The train made its first run to Pune on 31 March 2022, after services were halted during the pandemic. The train ran with the Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB) coaches instead of those built by the Integral Coach Factory. It operates as train number 16382 from Kanyakumari to Pune and as train number 16381 in the reverse direction. As the entire route is now electrified,this train is now hauled end to end by a KYN , ED based WAP-7 in both direction. The 16382 Kanyakumari Pune Express covers the distance of 2135 kilometres in 47 hours 05 mins (45.35 km/h) and in 44 hours 30 mins (47.98 km/h) as 16381 PUNE Kanyakumari Express. The service runs from Kanyakumari via Nagercoil Junction,Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam Junction, Kayamkulam Junction, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Palakkad Junction Coimbatore Junction, Erode Junction, Salem Junction, Jolarpettai Junction, Katpadi Junction, Pakala Junction, Tirupati,Renigunta Junction, Yerraguntla Junction, Gooty Junction, Guntakal Junction, Raichur Junction, Wadi Junction, Kalaburagi Junction, Kurduvadi Junction, Daund Junction, Pune Junction. On the journey to Kanyakumari, the train will have additional stops at Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Wadakkanchery and Ottapalam. The trains will not stop in these stations on the return journey. On the return journey to Pune, the train will have additional stops at Tripunithura and Thiruvananthapuram Pettah. Pune Junction railway station (station code: PUNE) is the main railway junction of the city of Pune, India. It is one of the major railway junctions in Maharashtra. Pune Junction consists of 6 platforms. It also has a suburban train network. It has two accesses, from HH Aga Khan Road on the south and Raja Bahadur Mills Road on the north. Pune Police and Central Reserve Police Force serve the station. There is a diesel locomotive shed located near the Ghorpuri railway station, 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) away from Pune station. It is one of three diesel sheds that belong to Central railway and the largest of the three. The Pune Suburban Railway operates on a single route, Pune Junction to Lonavala and its part, Shivajinagar to Talegaon. There are 15 trains that operate on the Pune–Lonavala route and 3 trains that operate on the Shivajinagar–Talegaon route. The station is powered by a solar power plant and emergency diesel generators. The 160 kWp solar power plant generates around 2.4 lakh units (kWh) annually. Funded by Persistent CSR, Sunshot built the plant in June 2016. This project was replicated for the Hyderabad Deccan railway station. Kanniyakumari railway station, (formerly Cape Comorin railway station)(station code: CAPE) is an NSG–4 category Indian railway station in Thiruvananthapuram railway division of Southern Railway zone. It is a railway terminus of the Indian Railways serving the coastal town of Kanyakumari in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a part of the Thiruvananthapuram railway division of Southern Railway zone. It's the southernmost railway station in India. The Kanyakumari rail station is located in the heart of Kanyakumari and is only 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) away from Kanyakumari beach. It is one of the 73 stations in Tamil Nadu to be named for upgradation under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme of Indian Railways. Indian Railways were planning for East Coast Railway Route starting from Chennai to Kanyakumari via Cuddalore, Karaikudi, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin. The surveys were gone on a phase by phase manner and submitted for approvals, the Railway board currently shelved the project.
