There are many videos on youtube of what people claim to be the real Charles Magnante recording of this beautiful composition, but some viewers have rejected their authenticity. I hope I've found the real one here. The maestro's powerful but sensitive style & ornamentation is apparent as he plays here on his beloved Excelsior accordion. I especially love his addition of rubato in strategic phrases & the sustained C# he adds at the end of the "pizzicato" bridge section...it makes me catch my breath. Charles didn't join in the rush toward "free-bass," but many of us free-bass fans were originally turned on to the beautiful sound of the accordion by world-class stradella artists like the beloved Charles Magnante. Thank you, Charles for the showing us how beautiful accordion music could (& should) sound!
