While all is in flux according to Heraclitus, he “seems to see deep interconnections between science, human affairs and theology,” writes Daniel Graham. Opposing things unite and everything owes their harmonious existences ironically to conflict. What is good or bad, conflicting or harmonious, is often a matter of perspective. From the elemental fire comes all things and all things can revert to fire, though some have considered his choice of fire merely to be a metaphor for change rather than an ontology. Yet from these three things comes also the idea of an Absolute, a totality, a Logos which permeates all things. Is this a cosmic nous, a cosmic consciousness? Sound: Benjamin James from Pixabay
