Macallan Classic Cut 2021

Please give us a 'like' if your liking the video. Thanks I wonder how many of us swore they wouldn't buy another Macallan bottle until the price drastically dropped to affordability. I have often said that I wouldn't until I did. There was a time when we all could run down to the liquor store to pick up a Macallan 15 or if you were splurging maybe an eighteen to entertain company or just indulge. Now those days are just memories. I have had the 18 as a gift from my son but I won't be seeing that anymore. I might not even be able to afford the 12 year old Sherry Oak pretty soon. I can wine all I want but if they are able to sell whisky at that price and there is still a market of buyers out there the price will keep going the direction it's going. So what cardinal sin have I recently committed? I went out and purchased the Macallan Classic Cut 2021 edition for $159. And the reason was, I thought at the time that I was getting a pretty good price (well maybe for a Macallan). But shortly after I was questioning that I might have foolishly wasted a lot of hard earned money on that purchase. That always motivates me to do more Google research on my phone. Now I could see that some prices on the Classic Cut 2021 were double what I paid. So now (for a while), I don't feel like such a fool. But I haven't pulled the cork yet so I am still not fully convinced. Macallan is a whisky that so many of us have a love hate relationship with. Obviously mine is more love than hate. The Classic Cut series first started at cask strength in 2017 and has come out every year since at 51% ABV or higher in limited quantity. Critics can say what they want but these are bottles that some of us find hard to get. I will interpret that as, there is more product demand than product availability. That tells me that it was a hit amongst the Macallan die-hard fans out there and maybe even those on the fence like myself. Of course I will make that decision after the review. I first tried the 2017 Classic Cut a few years back at a friend's offering and he poured me a dram like it was gold. That Classic Cut was bottled at 58.4% ABV, and was aged in Sherry seasoned American and European oak casks from Jerez, Spain. After listening to his hype on it I do remember him telling me of it going online for $700 plus. My friend later purchased the 2019 Classic Cut which was a bit lower 52.9% ABV, but was also Sherry seasoned American and European oak casks. I got a chance to share a couple drams with him. My short lived experience and vague memories of both the 2017 and the 2019 Classic Cut have motivated me ever since in purchasing a bottle if I could get it at a reasonable price but it never stayed on the shelves long enough to make that decision. I finally found the Classic Cut 2021 edition that is now aged in both American ex-bourbon and seasoned sherry casks. I must say that I was on the fence about purchasing it because a NAS at $159 is the breaking point for me (unless it is being auctioned online for $700 plus). I have put together some pictures of the Old Macallan distillery, the construction of the new distillery from 2014 to 2017 and the new completed architectural and engineering masterpiece. It was opened a year behind schedule at the final cost of 190 million pounds. In the end it was 90 million pounds over budget. And now you can answer that question, "Why are we paying so much for a Macallan?" Figure it out. So let's get back to the Macallan Classic Cut 2021 whisky review.
