Basquiat's Crowns

For this two week lesson we will learn about the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat by reading the book, "The Radiant Child," by Javaka Steptoe before beginning our own Basquiat inspired crowns. The first week students will use tempera paint to cover the front and back of their pre-cut cardboard crowns. We will also look at some of Basquiat's paintings and examine his repeated use of letters as well as crowns in his work.
