Our Children Taken ~ The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Cover

So, uh... I didn't know this song existed... A month or two ago, I was streaming my playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Specifically, I was playing a randomizer of the game. All of the items were swapped around, Link's clothes were a random color, and music would play in randomized locations. This piece, from what I understand, originally plays during a brief meeting with Ilia. Outside of that, it only plays when revisiting Ordon Village after the village's children have been abducted and taken, eventually, to Kakariko Village. Having apparently paid little attention to, or perhaps forgotten about the encounter with Ilia, and also having never backtracked to Ordon Village during a part of the game where players are not required to, I was never aware of this song's existence. When I played the aforementioned randomizer, however, this piece ended up playing in the Sacred Grove, giving me a lot of time to listen to is as I tracked down Skull Kid. The music, despite not being written for the area, was very fitting for exploring the gloomy woods, and I fell in love with it quite quickly. After finally discovering the name of the piece, I got to work on covering it. As mentioned, the piece plays in Ordon Village during a time in the game where the parents of the village are at their most desperate. Their children unaccounted for in an increasingly dangerous Hyrule, they wait anxiously for good news to arrive from Link. This piece perfectly captures that emotion, and I wish I had known about it sooner. I changed the instrumentation with this arrangement, but ultimately kept it very similar to the original. I'm always looking for excuses to bring the shakuhachi out for a cover, and this piece happened to sound very good with the bamboo flute in the spotlight. This is also the first time I've used the clarinet in awhile. What a tricky instrument it is! Some of the fingerings feel pretty awkward for me, being primarily a saxophonist. I really like the sound of the flute-like synths I used for this cover as well. I feel as though they really match some of the unique synthetic woodwind sounds used in the game's original soundtrack.
