Monarda, Liatris & Joe Pye Weed! - Floral Feasts for Both the Eyes AND Our Pollinators!

In this video, you're going to be learning all about three more perennials we have waiting for you right here at Bountiful Gardens: Monarda (Bee Balm), Liatris (Blazing Star), and Eupatorium (Joe Pye Weed)! All three of these plants feature native varieties you can find growing out in nature here in New Jersey. These are some low maintenance, high impact perennials that you should be considering right now! Monarda, or Bee Balm, is a gorgeous wildflower with tubular petals that make them a favorite for hummingbirds and butterflies alike. They typically grow in full sun to partial shade in open woodlands or sunny meadow landscapes. These plants can tolerate decently wet soils, as well as some dry spells from time to time. There are so many color varieties to Monarda--you have to come see them all to believe it! And if you want to spice things up, consider Spotted Bee Balm, a silvery-foliage mint with unique blooms. Liatris, or Blazing Star, is a native perennial wildflower that is beloved by migrating monarch butterflies. Also frequented by countless other pollinators, these whimsical looking purple-flowered plants can grow upwards of 6 feet tall and bloom from top to bottom, allowing you to trim it back as it wilts from the top down, preserving a perfect bloom for longer. You can find Liatris growing naturally in moist conditions in sunny, open areas and along streambanks. Joe Pye Weed is a classic native wildflower that you can find all over the state of New Jersey. It's extremely hardy, and is often found on sunny, abandoned sites. This plant is a beacon for pretty much everything that pollinates. From monarchs to bumblebees and more, this plant is a no-brainer if you're looking to make an eco-friendly addition to your landscape. Here's a timestamp breakdown for you!
