Succulent Sedum, Vibrant Veronica and Luscious Lobelia - Late Summer Blooming Perennials You NEED!

We're back at Bountiful Gardens! In this week's video, we're diving deep into three more perennials that can bring bursts of color and texture to your landscape: Sedum (Stonecrop), Veronica (Speedwell) and Lobelia (Cardinal Flower)! These plants all bloom from late summer through Fall, with Veronica starting its flowers a bit earlier in the summer. Sedum is a succulent plant that grows incredibly well in dry, rocky soils. This makes it perfect for rock gardens or green roofs, where it can receive full sun. Smaller Sedums can be used as groundcover and tend to keep their leaves through the winter, whereas shrubby varieties keep their seed heads, which resemble giant broccoli clusters. Sedum comes in plenty of colors of both flower and foliage, so there's sure to be one for you! And this plant is so easy to care for, it's even been called "Never Die"! Veronica, or Speedwell is a member of the plantain family that features beautiful, long-lasting flower spikes in white, pink, purple and blue. These flowers are frequented by bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and much more, making this a valuable addition to any pollinator garden. This plant likes well draining soil with medium amounts of moisture. Lobelia, or Cardinal Flower, is an amazing native perennial that features vibrant flowers in red, blue, purple, pink and white. The red varieties are beloved by hummingbirds, whereas the blues are frequented by bees. This is a perfect plant for a wet site in either sun or part shade!
