This video documents three different trains switching on the shortline railroad over my 2024 and 2021 visit to the Midwest state. The railroad, which was announced will be purchased by CN Canadian National in 2023, is still pending Surface Transportation Board approval. It is expected to be approved by end of the year. First up is a crew switching the end of the branch line located out in Oelwein, Iowa. EMD #4003 , slug #3953 and GP38-2 #3808 make up the power at Nexus. Power for the second crew include GP38-2 #3803 and #3811 found switching Shell Rock, Iowa. The Waterloo Crew is using the following equipment: GP40-2LW #4003 Road slug #3956 (an ex-PRR locomotive built in 1953) GP38-2 HLCX #3813 and GP38-2 #3807.
