Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 2816 returns to the United States for the first time in 17 years on a grand tour across the newly merged Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad. The "Empress," as it is named since its 2001 debut, leads two F units and a matching 15 passenger car train (and two water cars) from its homebase in Calgary, Alberta, via Canadian Pacific to St. Paul, Chicago and Kansas City. The Hudson would continue via the Kansas City Southern Railroad via Louisiana and Texas before crossing into Mexico. The Empress did impress on a month long journey across the Midwest. This video documents three days of operation between St. Paul, Chicago and Davenport. Canadian Pacific 2816 is an H1b 4-6-4 built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in December 1930. It operated primarily in passenger and commuter service in Eastern Canada until its retirement in May 1960. The locomotive would become part of the Steamtown collection, as its Hudson representative throughout numerous display cities.
