HOW TO TURN PAGES for piano with iPad & PageFlip! (Duane Hulbert demonstrates with the Minute Waltz)

Here are a few tips and devices for a wireless, hands-free, page-turning system for musicians. Flipping pages while performing is disrupting and awkward. In this video pianist Duane Hulbert shows the automatic page-turning system that he uses. At the end of the video he plays Chopin's "Minute Waltz" to demonstrate. (5:28) Here's what Duane uses: 10.2 inch iPad (Duane was concerned at first that the music wouldn't be large enough to read easily, but since the larger iPads were quite a bit more expensive, he thought he'd take a chance. For his needs,10.2 inch works out just fine. Any recent tablet would also work with the page-turning devices.) PageFlip Firefly (This was the second page turner device Duane bought. The first was well reviewed and started out OK but since it charged up like a phone, Duane was never quite sure how much of a charge was left. Frequently in the middle of recording, the device would flip multiple pages. Stressful and frustrating. The PageFlip uses two AA batteries, has an automatic turn-off if not used in 30 minutes, and has a light that goes on when the batteries get low. So far it hasn't turned multiple pages or stopped suddenly. It seems rugged and can take that constant foot thumping!) Apple Pencil (This is a valuable tool if you want to write in your own fingerings, phrasings, etc...) forScore (This is a music reading and saving app, purchased on the App Store. Music can be downloaded and saved from IMSLP. You can also scan and import music to forScore. There's also a way that you can take a photo of your music and keep & read it in forScore.) IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) / Petrucci Music Library "Sharing the world’s public domain music." https://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page. Our PageFlip can turn the pages while the music is in preview mode. So, sometimes we don't even bother importing it to forScore. ) We are not "techies" by any means, but If we can do it, so can you. For those of you who are ARE "techies," we'd love to know what system you use. Please put any advice in the comments below. If you value this content, please subscribe.
