The driftwood you have found for your aquarium could be safe if it passes a series of tests. First check over the piece of driftwood to ensure that there is no decaying spots or moist holes. Anything that is starting to decay is only going to decay in your water and regular water parameters. We only want hard intact pieces of driftwood inside of your fish tank. The second test is going to be the softness test. Use your finger nail to see if it sinks into the wood. If it’s a super soft wood your fingernail will dig into it very easily. You mainly want hardwoods for your fish aquarium. To be safe you can add your Driftwood to a small children’s pool and allow it to soak for a couple of days.
