In this video, we’ll be presenting a buying guide on how to pick the right digital piano for you. This video is going to be a little bit different than other videos of this nature as we’re going to be listing various crucial factors into a very specific order that we’ve come up with based on our decades of experience in terms of both performing on and selling digital pianos. Please like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell! How to Pick a Digital Piano When you first start looking into this topic, there are going to be a number of things that come out that people will tell you that you need to consider. What’s different about our video here is that we’re going to put those factors into a very specific order of importance. Our advice is, regardless of price point, don’t change the order of these considerations we’re going to lay out here as you’ll wind up coming to a decision quicker, and in our opinion, you’ll also be more satisfied in the long run. Here they are: #1. Does your instrument need to be portable or can it be stationary? Answering this question will save you a ton of time as the digital piano market is essentially split into categories - instruments that are slab-based and easily portable, versus instruments with integrated consoles and stands that are meant to be stationary. If you think you’ll be moving your piano around a lot, it probably makes more sense to go the portable route. Fortunately, most slab-based digital pianos are compatible with optional matching stands, so you can get the best of both worlds if there is going to be periods of time where you aren’t taking your piano out too often. #2. Touch After step 1 and you’ve narrowed down your category, the next thing you’ll want to focus on is finding an action that you like playing on. Touch on a digital piano is more important than any other single specification. Even if every feature is great, if you don’t like how your piano feels and responds to your fingers, odds are you’re not going to have an enjoyable musical experience. #3. Tone The next most important factor to consider is tone. After deciding on a touch you like, you’ll want to focus on finding an instrument with a sound that inspires you. There’s a massive range in piano tone out there with digital pianos, both in terms of technology, and simply the character of sound. When testing out a digital piano’s sound, you’ll want to check it out both through the speakers and through headphones. #4. Features Once we’ve narrowed it down this far, you’ll want to focus on the built-in features that are important to you, such as Bluetooth connectivity, the amount of built-in sounds, arranger features, microphone input, built-in recorder, etc. #5. Price After you’ve gone through these first four categories, it now comes down to price. We feel that when people place prices first, it can disrupt the rest of the process. Putting price last doesn’t necessarily mean your budget will change, but simply ensures you’re placing emphasis on the most important things first. Follow this checklist and we’re confident you’ll end up choosing an instrument that’s going to inspire you for years to come. Thanks for watching!
