The Hanuman Chalisa is a Hindu devotional hymn addressed to Lord Hanuman. It is traditionally believed to have been authored by 16th-century poet Tulsidas in the Awadhi language, and is his best known text apart from the Ramcharitmanas. The work consists of forty-three verses – two introductory Dohas, forty Chaupais and one Doha in the end. The qualities of Hanuman – his strength, courage, wisdom, celibacy, devotion to Lord Rama and the many names by which he was known – are detailed in the Hanuman Chalisa. The Hanuman Chalisa is the most popular hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman, and is recited by millions of Hindus every day. The deity of the prayer is Lord Hanuman, an ardent devotee of Ram (the seventh avatar of Vishnu) and a central character in the Ramayana. Lord Hanuman is also the 11th incarnation of Lord Shiva. A general among the vanaras, Hanuman is a dedicated disciple, servant and devotee of Lord Rama in the war against the demon king Ravan in the epic text, the Ramayana. Pundit Ganesh Maharaj is a practicing Sanatanist Hindu priest, from Preysal village in the Couva district of Trinidad and Tobago. At 39 years of age, he has been involved in the propagation of Hinduism and Spirituality since 1998. He was ordained in 2003 by Shankaracharya Swami Divyanand Saraswati Teerth. He has accepted training from the Trinidad Academy of Hinduism, The Chinmaya Mission of Trinidad and Tobago, the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, the Dattatreya Yoga Center and the Bhartiya Vidya Sansthaan. He is a disciple of Sadguru Sant Keshavadas of Vishwa Shanti Ashram, Bangalore and Sr Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji of Datta Peetham, Mysore.
