This led to the notorious king having 6 wives, and infamously two of these were executed inside the Tower of London. The executions of the Queens shocked the nation, but one Queen was spared no remorse and was beheaded using the commoner’s axe. Catherine Howard after her execution was then allegedly buried in the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula, and Henry VIII was so outraged by her betrayal that he ordered her body to be covered in quicklime, as if she was simply erased from history. Catherine was accused of adultery and treason behind the King’s back, but she’s seen today as a victim of advantageous men who was manipulated. Within her upbringing she suffered from this, and was supposed to be looked after by her step grandmother, Agnes Tilney, or Agnes Howard the Duchess of Norfolk.
