We were incredibly fortunate to be able to witness the arrival of Ivatt 2mt No.46441 on Lakeside & Haverthwaite Metals. After a very long period on static display at the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston (having last operated in 2002), the locomotive's owner have reached an agreement with the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway on a "Run & Restore" basis. The arrival of 46441 holds some significance, as it is not only the first resident tender engine since the departure of FR 20 in 2008, but also the fact that it is, essentially, an original locomotive. 46441 being known to have worked the Ulverston-Lakeside trains in British Rail day, her purchase for preservation starting the effort to save the line; now arriving nearly 45 years after the preserved 3.5 mile section reopened in 1973.
