Date filmed: Thursday the 11th of July 2024 Videos filmed at: 18:40 | 18:57 Route: Highland Main Line - Blair Atholl (BLA) Station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing (MCB) Filming location: Ford Road, Blair Atholl (PH18 5SQ) A pair of evening lowerings filmed at this level crossing beside Blair Atholl Station on the Highland Main Line, featuring an LNER Azuma finally reaching the tail end of its Inverness-bound journey all the way from London Kings Cross, followed by a shortened version of its legendary predecessor heading south: the HST. This level crossing is on a quiet road in a very quiet, peaceful, and pretty area, which is considered to be in the Scottish Highlands despite not falling within Highland Council's area. This will be my last video from the Highlands for now, and I hope you've loved the videos as much as I have being there and taking them! This level crossing is controlled from the signal box next to it and has its four sets of wigwag lights scattered all over the place. One of the 'off-side' ones has had to be fitted on the other side of the tracks as there's simply no space to fit it in the corner it would be, and it is set up within the crossing's barriers. Even more clutter in that corner has meant the near-side one on that side is fitted quite a long way forward of the crossing, and the alarms here are rather noisy despite just how quiet and peaceful this little area is. The barriers are ancient; they're 'GWE' barriers which also very surprisingly both still have metal skirts which can be heard clattering a lot with the barriers in motion - something VERY un-heard of now.
