Scotland Trip Pt 3- Nottingham and York

We decided to stop in Nottingham because of Robin Hood. Turns out he is a celebrated key part of the community's history. Several statues and plaques around town in his honor. We stopped at the main area in central Nottingham around the castle (Palace more like). Several different things to see in the gardens about the history of this once very large castle area. Also, exhibits inside of the castle and a kid interactive activity area under the castle. Even caves that you can tour. Originally a wooden motte-and-bailey fortification was built on the site, only to be transformed several times over the next 100 years. But it wasn't until the 1400s when rebellion started here from Edward proclaiming to be King of England. After defeating Henry the VI, he spent lots of money upgrading the place. But peace would never last too long here. King Charles civil war also began here. But of course, I can't tell you everything. Because much happened here, even up to WWII. But on to York. Our magnificent hotel was beautiful and located within walking distance of everything in central town. To the medieval walls and gates, to the roman fortifications. Much more is yet to be seen.
